Before your first Find

Three essentials.
No guesswork.

  1. An Android phone with Bluetooth.

Android 12 or later is the current baseline. Both phones need Bluetooth and the required nearby permissions. Extra precision depends on supported hardware.

  2. One online setup.

Connect to the internet, sign in with an email you can verify, and follow the app’s setup steps. See the Terms for eligibility.

  3. A person you’ve chosen to trust.

Set up the trusted connection together. Nearby Bluetooth then works offline for everyone. Wider-area GPS is a Plus feature for the finder; it also needs both phones online and location access allowed by the responding person.

Know what to expect

Not every phone needs
every extra.

Bluetooth remains the base. Open a feature to see what it needs.

Nearby BluetoothThe starting point

Two compatible Android phones, Bluetooth permissions and an established trusted connection. After setup, nearby finding works without internet.

You get: an arrow with a confidence band, an estimated distance, and warmer-or-colder feedback as you move. Bluetooth does not measure an exact bearing on its own.

Wider-area GPSBoth phones online

Plus on the finder’s account unlocks GPS finding; the responding person can stay on Standard. Both phones need mobile data or Wi-Fi, active trust and required permissions, and the responding person must allow GPS access.

You get: a limited number of location updates, with their age and accuracy, only while a Find is active.

UWB precisionSupported hardware

Both phones need compatible ultra-wideband hardware and system support. Bluetooth stays connected, and the finder needs Plus. UWB is optional, not required for Bluetooth finding.

You get: precise nearby distance, accurate to about a step; direction only when the phone supplies a real measurement.

Wi-Fi distancePlus · supported phones

Both phones need Android 13 or newer, Wi-Fi Aware and RTT support, Wi-Fi switched on, and a trusted Bluetooth pairing first. The finder needs Plus; the person being found does not. Wi-Fi distance is optional and runs when Bluetooth is disconnected.

You get: a measured distance on the same Find screen.

Group FindPlus · up to three

Plus on the account starting the Find, and a trusted connection with each person you select. Everyone keeps their own consent decision and Stop control.

You get: one to three people in a single Find, each with a separate status—never a whole group requested automatically.

Wear OS watchFree watch app

A Wear OS watch already paired to your Android phone. The watch app is a separate, free download and works with Standard and Plus. The phone does the finding; the watch mirrors it.

You get: the arrow and distance on your wrist during a Find, so the phone can stay pocketed.

Offline mapsDownload ahead

Offline maps are a Plus feature. Save your chosen map area while online and keep enough phone storage available.

You get: the map background offline. Downloading a map does not deliver the other phone’s location without a connection.

Real places affect real signals. Walls, metal, crowds, body position, interference, battery settings and manufacturer restrictions can affect results.
